A two-week window on one landing page, 5,965 recorded scroll and engagement events, with phantom sessions (prefetchers, scanners, bots) filtered out before reading the result.
66% of visitors never scrolled past the first quarter of the page. The page's strongest proof point, the single number most likely to move a reader toward buying, sat at around 80% scroll depth. Most visitors never got anywhere near it.
Writing follows a different order than reading. A document builds its case and lands the argument near the end, which works for a reader who asked to be there and reads in order. Nobody reads a landing page that way; most visitors are scanning on a phone, deciding within the first screen or two whether to keep going at all. A claim buried in a paragraph three-quarters down the page only reaches the minority of visitors who read carefully enough to get there.
The proof moved up into scannable units, boxed numbers with one line underneath, placed inside the first two screenfuls rather than built up to near the bottom. A box reading a number, with one line under it, reaches everyone scanning past it, not just the readers who read carefully. That's the cheapest fix most landing pages never make.
Pull your own scroll-depth data, filtered for real engagement rather than raw sessions, and find where your strongest proof point actually sits on the page. If it's past the point where most of your visitors stop scrolling, the proof isn't doing its job for the majority of the people who see the page, no matter how good it is. Move it up, into a scannable box, inside the first two screenfuls.
